Point of Presence
As a point of presence ( PoP) is referred to a physical node for a connection in a (private ) data network. There are small, unmanned PoPs, which consist only of a cabinet with some technology have (for example, UPS, routers, switches, remote maintenance ) but also affiliated very large PoPs that occupy entire floors or buildings and offices (for example, DE- CIX ).
Typical PoPs are the dial-in node and broadband PoPs by Internet Service Providers (ISPs ) or interconnection points of Internet backbone providers and telecommunications companies.
A virtual point of presence ( PoP - V or VPOP ) is in the telecommunications industry a PoP of a telecommunications company that is but by another company managed and operated (eg another telecommunications provider).
