Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana

The Pointe Coupee Parish (French: Paroisse de la Pointe- Coupée ) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In the census in 2010, the Parish had 22,802 inhabitants and a population density of 15.8 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is New Roads.

The Pointe Coupee Parish is part of the metropolitan area around the city of Baton Rouge.

Geography

History

In April 1795, the region was the site of the Porte Coupée Conspiracy, the preparations for an uprising of the slaves who would become one of the largest in the history of the southern states. Pointe Coupee Parish was formed in 1807 as one of the 19 original Parishes.
