The English Pointer is a recognized by the FCI British breed ( FCI Group 7, Section 2.1, Standard No. 1).

Origin and History

The English Pointer, Pointer or short, probably descended from Spanish hunting dogs. Probably there was cross breeding of Foxhounds, French hounds and to bring more speed, of greyhounds. Due to the Greyhound, there are now the color black in the pointer and on the build can still recognize the Greyhound site. Its name derives from Perro de Punta ( Spanish " dog for standing " ) ago. Description

He is a 69 -cm and 30 kg heavier hunting dog. The hair is fine, short, tight, perfectly smooth and with a distinctive luster. The usual colors are lemon -colored and white, orange and white, liver brown and white as well as black and white, but also single color and tri-color ( tricolor ). His ear leather is thin, medium, high and carried close to head.

Character

The pointer is described as friendly and balanced with special hunting skills. The original purpose of the gentle, obedient and serious pointer was selected from the natural behavior out. Every dog ​​remains there briefly when he has the scent of prey in the nose before he jumps forward to catch it. When pointer this persistence was extended through targeted selection to the permanent standing ( protrusion ). The nose of the pointer is extremely sensitive and it can perceive at full speed the weathering of partridges or pheasants that are still 50 meters away. The breeding led to an upmarket and friendly animal that is very sensitive.

Use

The Pointer is an excellent hunting pointer with extraordinary properties. His enormously fast movement and the fine nose makes him wild found in areas other hounds would have to work off slowly. Since the 1950s, it is also used in Europe as a sled dog.
