The Poitevin is a recognized by the FCI French breed (FCI Group 6, Section 1.1, Standard No. 24).
Origin and History
The result are the precursors of this race to 1692, when the Marques de Larre crossed with native dogs fox hound shock. As a pack dog he proved to be excellent. As Wolfsjäger admired his courage, his quickness and his nose. Most of the original Poitevins were killed during the French Revolution. Fifty years later, annihilated a rabies epidemic, the surviving packs. With the help of the English Foxhound breed was reconstructed.
Description
The Poitevin is a to 72 cm large hunting dog, tri-color, with black mantle or large black spots; rare white and orange (two colors) or wolf color. The fur of the dogs is short and glossy. The ears are rather low set, feinledrig, half- long and slightly screwed.
