Poland men's national volleyball team

The Polish national volleyball team of men is a selection of the best Polish players who represented the Polish Association ( Polski Związek Pilki Siatkowej ) in international tournaments and international matches.

History

World cup

Poland took the first volleyball World Cup in 1949 equal to the fourth. After the seventh place in 1952 they were in the next two tournaments back in fourth. It was followed by two sixth and fifth place. 1974 Poland was after a final victory against the Soviet Union for the first time world champion. In the following years, the rankings were between six and nine. The tournaments in 1990 and 1994, missed the Poles and 1998 they had with rank 17 its worst result. In 2002 it was again better than ninth and at the 2006 World Cup they lost Brazil until the endgame. 2010 in Italy, they slipped back down to 13th place.

Olympic games

Poland was at the games in 1968 for the first time there and finished fifth. 1972 Munich occupied Poland ninth. At the tournament in 1976, they won the gold medal in the final against the Soviet Union. Four years later, in Moscow in 1980 she reached the fourth place. After a long pause, she returned at the games in 1996, but did not get beyond the eleventh place. The 2004 tournament, they finished fifth. The same result there was in Beijing in 2008 after the defeat in the quarter- final against Italy.

European

The first participation in a European Volleyball Championship Poland 1950 fifth. From 1955 to 1963, she occupied three consecutive sixth. In 1967, she was third, then re- sixth. 1975 began a series of playoffs against the Soviet Union. Five times were the Poles against the Soviets, they could never win. In 1985, she finished fourth rank. As of 1989, there were three seventh and sixth place. Thereafter the Poles missed two European tournaments and were twice fifth. In 2005, she did not get beyond the group stage and also at the European Championships in 2007 it was only enough for eleventh place. At Euro 2009, the Polish national team for the first time succeeded in winning the title with a 3-1 victory against France. 2011 Poland won the Bronzemedaiile.

World Cup

Right at the first edition of the World Cup 1965 Poland celebrated their biggest success in this competition. As hosts, they had merely defeated the Soviet Union. Four years later they were eighth. 1977 and 1981 they finished fourth place respectively. After that they were no longer involved.

World League

Poland, in 1998 for the first time at the World League in part, however, did not come out the first round. The following year there was the same result. In 2000, they were eighth. In 2001, she lost in the second round as host in which it was over a year later. 2003, 2004 and 2007 ended the tournament again in the first round. Greater success was also held with the fourth places in 2005 and 2007. Competing In 2008, the Poles were only a rank worse than fifth. 2009 and 2010 there were only the places nine and ten, while the third place went to the second best result in 2011 in the final round in their own country. 2012 won the World League Poland for the first time.

Europe League

The Europa League was previously held without Polish participation.
