Polar Air Cargo Worldwide, Inc. is an American cargo airline based in Purchase and home base at John F. Kennedy International Airport. It belongs to 51% of Atlas Air Worldwide Holding and 49% by the German logistics company DHL.

History

Polar Air Cargo was founded in 1993 through a joint venture between Southern Air Transport and GE Capital Aviation Services ( GECAS ). Flight operations began in June 1993 with charter flights with a Boeing 747-200, followed later by scheduled flights. After several years of steady growth Polar Air Cargo was taken over completely by GECAS. 2001, the company of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings ( AAWW ) was the parent company of Atlas Air taken. Atlas Air is a leading ACMI leasing company for cargo aircraft. Polar was the freight provider for scheduled flights AAWW, while Atlas Air on the business operates as a wet lease provider for Boeing 747 cargo aircraft. 2006 DHL acquired a 49% stake of Polar Air Cargo, AAWW, however, is more of the main shareholders.

Destinations

Polar Air Cargo operates scheduled cargo flights. The company flies, for example, in scheduled service to China and connects Shanghai and Beijing with New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, South America and several destinations in Asia and Europe, including Leipzig / Halle.

As of October 2013, the fleet of the Polar Air Cargo consists of 12 aircraft:

  • 8 Boeing 747- 400F (4 operated for DHL Aviation, one operated by Atlas Air)
  • 2 Boeing 747- 8F ( operated by Atlas Air)
