Polar cells

The Polar cell, together with the Hadley cell and the Ferrel cell, a system of planetary circulation in the troposphere.

Schematically, the origin of the polar cell in the downward flow of cold dry air masses over the polar regions, causing the air pressure is increased. Near the ground, then these air masses flow towards the equator, where they are deflected by the Coriolis force at an angle to the west. At about the 60th degree of latitude they have warmed enough to get back to ascend and, at the tropopause along to return to the polar regions.

The Polar cell is separated towards the equator by unstable Rossby waves with polar fronts of the Ferrel cell.
