No details

The Chart Polski is recognized by the FCI Polish breed (FCI Group 10, Section 3, Standard No. 333).

Origin and History

The type of the Chart Polski is attested since the 13th century, it is perhaps a descendant of the Asian Greyhound Saluki type. He is mentioned early on in the literature and shown in pictures. In considering these early pictures shows that the type has remained the same from time immemorial, although in the 19th century other greyhounds were crossed.

Description

Rather heavy, yet elegant, the climate and the conditions of Poland adjusted to 80 cm large greyhound in all colors. The hair is short, close fitting, harsh but not wiry. The FCI calls Ears of medium size, rather narrow; moved forward they should reach approximately to the inner corners of eyes. The base of the ear of the dog is at eye level. The cartilage of the shell is quite soft; the ears give the impression of being quite fleshy. The ears must be worn as follows: folded backwards, touching the neck; roof shape; fully erect when excited or slightly bent forward.

Nature

The Polish Greyhound is hardy, brave and self-confident; also he is restrained, quiet and gentle. He enjoys the closeness to his people. Other dogs, he is often very self-conscious.

Use

The Chart Polski was originally but used for hunting on horseback foxes, deer and Trappe for wolf hunting. Today it is also used in coursing.
