Polish Language Council
The Polish Language Council (Polish Rada Języka Polskiego ) is an organization that serves similar to the German Language Council to the preservation and care in this case of Polish mother tongue.
The Polish Language Council is, as a Commission, located within the Bureau of the Polska Akademia Nauk, Polish Academy of Sciences, was founded on 9 September 1996 and has 36 members.
Since May 2000 he has worked under the Polish Language Act of 7 October 1999. The Polish Language Council is an advisory and opinion- making body in matters of use of the Polish language. Its first chairman was Professor Valery Pisarek (currently Honorary Chairman) and the position of Professor Andrzej Markowski is filled since May 2000. Vice-Presidents are Professor Jerzy Bralczyk and Professor Julian Kornhauser. The function of a Secretary General shall exercise Dr. Katarzyna Kłosińska. Council members are specialists in the field of linguistics and in connection therewith knowledge areas such as law, medicine, computer science, physics, etc.
Tasks
The tasks of the Council include:
- Analysis and evaluation of the Polish language as the language in politics and society
- Dissemination of knowledge of the Polish language, its norms, standards and criteria of their use; for this purpose the holding of discussions and conferences
- Assessing and evaluating the Polish language in culture and science as well as in publications
- Importance of language concerning vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, spelling and punctuation, as well as expression and style
- Search for solutions to the use of Polish in various fields of science and technology, especially in new disciplines
- Comments on the proposed names for new products or services
- Concern for the culture of the Polish language in schools
- Formation of rules of spelling and punctuation of the Polish language
- Employment with non-standard and rule- oriented names for children
