Polish Socialist Party

Polish Socialist Party (Polish: Polska Partia Socjalistyczna PPS) is a Polish political party of socialist imprinting, in Paris as Związek Zagraniczny Socjalistów Polskich in November 1892 ( Polish union socialists abroad ) was founded.

History

The 1893 adopted social program of the party was based on the Erfurt Programme of the SPD and demanded, among other things, the nationalization of land, production and transportation, the 8- hour workday and a minimum wage. In May 1904, the first combat unit of the party ( Organizacja Bojowa Polskiej Partii Socjalistycznej, OBPPS ) was founded. Benefiting from the Russian -Japanese War, the party was able to get some weapons from Japan and thus led raids on banks and mail trains. A mass demonstration in November 1904, to fights with the Russian military which is considered the first military action since the January Uprising 1863/1864. This led to an increase in membership, so that the party had about 55,000 members in 1906. The elections to the first Duma were boycotted by the party. Rather, the party put forth on fighting and led attacks on tsarist institutions but also looting of trains through. The attacks of Krwawa środa belonged to it. Roman Dmowski accused her therefore of banditry. The end of 1906, the party split into the Polska Partia Socjalistyczna - Frakcja Rewolucyjna Józef Piłsudski and with the Polska Partia Socjalistyczna - Lewica.

In the Second Polish Republic, the PPS is working closely with the German Socialist Labour Party of Poland and formed in 1928 with this a common choice list to the Sejm.

Since then she has played an important role on the Polish political scene. She was involved among other things, the formation of the Polish government in exile. In 1948, the remaining part in Poland with the PPR was forcibly joined to the PZPR.

After 1948 she worked as an independent party only in exile and was reactivated in 1987 in Poland as well as Polska Partia Socjalistyczna. Since 1989, she has at times been represented in the context of electoral alliances in the Sejm, but gained no more the importance that once had the PPS, not least because the left competition from parties like Mlodzi Socjaliści ( Young Socialists ) and the 2002 spin-off of PPS Nowa Lewica, which also rely on PPS tradition.
