Polizia Penitenziaria
The Polizia Penitenziaria (Eng. about " Prison Police " ) is an Italian police organization that is primarily responsible for guarding the prisons and their inmates. It is under the Department of Prisons Administration ( dipartimento dell'amministrazione penitenziaria ) of the Ministry of Justice in Rome. The 43,000 members of the Polizia Penitenziaria have blue uniforms. The emergency vehicles are dark blue and have a light blue stripe.
Tasks
In addition to these tasks in correctional facilities, the Polizia Penitenziaria also takes on prisoner transports and demonstrations in court. It monitors persons whom enforcement loosening was granted, which are under house arrest or similar sanctions are subject. Contributions have also helped to rehabilitate the inmates.
For the security of high-security prisons and for emergencies maintains the Polizia Penitenziaria as a Gruppo Operativo Mobile ( GOM ) designated, 700 -strong mobile task force. Criminal activities are controlled from there that take place in prisons or combat special investigation teams. The Polizia Penitenziaria also acts as a general security organ in the division of the Justice Department, for example, in the protection of various departments or vulnerable persons. As part of the assistance, the Polizia Penitenziaria can also support other police forces in general duties as required.
History
The origins of today's Polizia Penitenziaria are in the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia, which was first created a uniform legal framework for security guard services in prisons in 1817. In 1873, twelve years after the unification of Italy, addressed to a national organization to guard the prisons and their inmates, who was subordinate to the Interior Ministry until 1922 and then came to the Ministry of Justice. By 1990, this police organization was known as Corpo degli Agenti di Custodia or " correctional officers corps ", then it was renamed in train major reforms in Polizia Penitenziaria.
