Pollina
Pollina is a city in the province of Palermo in the Italian region Sicily, with 2993 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).
Location and data
Pollina is located 96 km east of Palermo on a 900 m high cliff.
The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture and industry. From the bark of manna ash manna is harvested, a raw material that is used in pharmacy.
The neighboring municipalities are Castelbuono, Cefalù and San Mauro Castel Verde.
History
From the year 1178, the city developed around a castle.
People
The honorary citizen of the city is called Francesco Musotto. He established the water supply of the city. Today, a memorial statue stands on the Pietra Rosa, the highest point of the city. In honor of the patron saint San Giuliano is celebrated every year a three-day festival in July on the 2nd Sunday.
