Polonghera

Polonghera is a municipality with 1212 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Cuneo (CN ), Region Piedmont.

The neighboring municipalities are Casalgrasso, Lazy, Moretta, Murello, Pancalieri (TO) and Racconigi.

Geography

The village lies at an altitude of 245 m above sea level. The municipality covers an area of ​​10 km ².

History

The village was founded in the Middle Ages as a deposit for salt, imported from Nice and was transported from here along the Po in Turin. Over the centuries Polonghera was ruled by various noble families, until it fell into the hands of Ludovica Costa di Chieri 1409. The castle was built by him in the village was heavily damaged by French troops on the road to Carmagnola in the 17th century.
