Polperro ( Cornish Porthpyra [KK ], Porth Pera [ UCR ] ) is a small fishing town on the south coast of the county of Cornwall in southwest England.

The town lies on the River Pol, 6 km west of the famous seaside resort of Looe and 40 km west of the city of Plymouth. It has a picturesque fishing harbor surrounded by tightly packed houses. Polperro is now a popular destination in the summer and lives mainly from tourism, whereas the traditional fisheries have no great economic importance. After all, there are still twelve commercially operated fishing boats in the harbor. The tidal range ( tidal range ) is in Polperro about 3.5 meters. At low tide the harbor dries out and the boats are on the ground in the mud.

Of importance is the tourist place located in Smugglers Museum, which documents the history of the once very lucrative smuggling on the south coast of Cornwall.

During World War II, Oskar Kokoschka had retired to this place to escape the attacks of the German Luftwaffe on London. Here he was visited in 1941 his former Dresdner student Hilde Goldschmidt.
