Polsat

Polsat is a Polish commercial television station. On December 5, 1992 Polsat went from the Netherlands, the first Polish- commercial station, on the air. Today Polsat is one of the four major TV networks in Poland. Founder of Polsat is Zygmunt Solorz - Żak, which was one of the richest Poles by the success of his company.

In December 2006, the Axel Springer AG has signed a preliminary agreement with Solorz to acquire a 25.1 percent stake in the company for a maximum of 300 million euros. At the same time it presented the Polish Office for Competition and Consumer Protection OCCP a request for acquisition of a minority stake. Springer should get two of the eight seats on the board, according to preliminary Polsat. The OCCP refused the request in April 2007 on the grounds that the Axel Springer AG will take over control of Polsat despite the minority interest. Thereupon, Springer decided in December 2007 not to pursue the acquisition of the holding on.
