Polska (dance)

Pole is a Norwegian folk dance in 3/4-time which is particularly widespread in the area of Røros and is also known as Rørospols. It is believed that the emergence of Rørospols in connection with the immigration into the area of Røros is a result of the development of mining in the 17th century.

Rørospols is danced as a couple dance and is divided into several sections, which are danced on each other in a fixed order. There follow each other: basic step in open attitude, turn left ( vrangsnu ), " corkscrew " ( woman turns under the hand of the man ), basic step in closed stance, right rotation ( rettsnu ). Then the sequence starts again from the beginning. In the basic step the left foot steps on the first beat, and the right foot makes a slow step on the third beat of the measure.
