Polycrates of Ephesus

Polycrates (* 125, † by 196 ) was episkopos of Ephesus; his term of office began probably in the year 161 and lasted until his death in which is placed according to sources in the year 192 or 196. He was born into a Christian family, because of this are according to his own testimony, seven bishops emerged before him. No doubt he had Polycarp and Irenaeus also known. Main sources for the life of Polycrates are Eusebius of Caesarea, the. Him in his Hist Eccl. V. 24.6 describes, and the St. Jerome in De viris illustribus 45th of Polycrates themselves are no works have been preserved.
