The heathland span Owl ( Pechipogo plumigeralis ), formerly known under the synonym Herminia crinalis, is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of cutworms ( Noctuidae ).

Features

Butterfly

The wingspan of the moth is about 24 to 30 millimeters. The ground color of the forewings varies from brown to red-brown. The apex is pointed. Ring and kidney blemish are small and dark filled. Outer and inner transverse line are serrated and stand out dark. The dark, relatively straight shaft line is created yellowish and continues to gray-brown hind wings. The proboscis of the moths is well developed, the antennae of the males are combed. Note the very long palps. The front legs of the males are bushy. From this feature is also the scientific name of the species derives from: Latin plumiger = " feathered " with categorizing suffix - alis.

Caterpillar

Adults caterpillars have a brownish stain, are washed out trickled reddish and with a dark dorsal line and small narrow ridge lines. There are dark slashes as well as in the cuts square, white patches on the sides of each segment.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The heathland span Owl is distributed locally in northwest Africa and South and Central Europe. Eastwards enough occurrence to Central Asia. In the southern valleys of the Alps, it rises to heights of 1200 meters. The animals are to be found on heathland and Ödländereien and on warm slopes.

Way of life
