Polypropylene glycols ( PPG Abbr ) are liquid polyglycols with high viscosity. The corresponding monomer is propylene glycol, nowadays usually called 1,2- propanediol.

The short-chain representative of the group of materials are dipropylene glycol, tripropyleneglycol and tetrapropylene.

Representation and extraction

The preparation of the polypropylene is carried out by ring-opening polymerization of propylene oxide. Furthermore, it can be synthesized by polycondensation of 1,2- propanediol.

Properties

The flash point is 150-225 ° C.

Use

Polypropylene glycols are used in non-ionic detergents and cleaning agents, synthetic resins, antifreeze and flotation agents. Polypropylene glycols are also used as anti-foam agents, plasticizers and lubricants. They are used inter alia for the preparation of polyurethanes, such as two-component adhesives, in which they may be admixed with the polyol component ( resin component).
