The Pomeroon is a river in Guyana. It lies between the Orinoco and the Essequibo, and was also in the 17th century a Dutch colony.

The small colony at Pomeroon was founded by Zeeländern and the settlement consisted of a few houses, the Nieuw Middelburg and the Fort Nova Zeelandia. From here, run the settlers primarily a barter with the locals. In 1689 all the buildings and the fort were destroyed by French privateers. Only towards the end of the 18th century, the area was repopulated by Dutch and created plantations on the banks of Pomeroon. De river was now part of the colony of Essequibo and Demerara. The river area was conquered in 1796 by the British, came the Peace of Amiens from 1802 to 1803 briefly back in Dutch hands, after which it was taken over by the British again. From 1831 was the Pomeroon part of British Guiana.
