Pomoravlje District

Pomoravlje (Serbian: Поморавски округ, Pomoravski okrug ) is an administrative district or administrative district in the central part of the Serbian heartland. Is named the area after the Morava River which flows through it from north to south.

It consists of the following municipalities ( opstine ):

This district has, according to the 2002 census, a population of 312 160. The main administrative center is the city Jagodina.

The cityscape Jagodinas recalls in part to the 19th century. For the buildings in the city as the home of Hajduk Veljko from the 17th century, the time seems to stand still. Also interesting is the church of the Archangel Michael and the Foundation of Prince Miloš Obrenović from the year 1818.

The monastery Josanica was built in the late 17th century at the time of Prince Đurađ Brankovic and is one of the most beautiful buildings in this region.

Area Ćuprijas is characterized by two very old buildings, the monastery Ravanica and the Church of the Assumption, the foundations of Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović are and were built in the years 1375-1377.

After the Battle of Kosovo, in which the Prince has fallen, these sanctuaries were saved from destruction. In 1690 this part of Serbia was partially freed from the rule of the Ottomans.

The donated by Stefan Lazarević Resava monastery was built in the years 1407 to 1418 and is located in the vicinity of Despotovac. In the 15th century there was in this convent school Resava, in the old Serbian documents and writings have been translated. Constantine the philosopher wrote his works in this monastery.

The focus of economic activity in the district form the Cable Factory " Jagodina " and one of the largest breweries in Europe, " Jagodinska Pivara ".
