Pompeo Colonna

Pompeo Colonna (* May 12, 1479 in Rome, † June 28, 1532 in Naples) was a cardinal, bishop of Rieti, and nephew of Prospero Colonna.

Pompeo seized on the rumor of the death of Pope Julius II by hitting the Capitol and was therefore deprived of his dignities, by Pope Leo X. but raised on 1 July 1517 Cardinal Santi XII Apostoli Church of the title, which he in 1524 against San Lorenzo exchanged in Damaso. Hadrian VI. and its successor, Clement VII Colonna's choice was work. As a cardinal, he was administrator of the diocese of Catania, Potenza, Terni, Acerno, Aquila, Rossano, Aversa, Sarno, Monreale and again from Rieti. He was later appointed legate at Ancona and Bologna and to the Archbishop of Monreale, by Charles V in 1530 as Viceroy of Naples and died on 28 June 1532. Colonna also composed, his major work De laudibus mulierum he wrote in honor of Vittoria Colonna.
