Ponce de Leon is a town in Holmes County in the U.S. state of Florida with 598 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Geography

Named is the place after the Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce de León. Pensacola is about 140 kms and 160 km from Tallahassee. Bonifay is located approximately 25 km to the east and the Gulf Coast is approximately 65 km.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 598 inhabitants distributed to 290 households. The population density was 46.7 inh. / Km ². 93.5 % of the population were white, 1.8% African American, 1.0% Native American and 0.3 % Asian Americans. 1.2% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.2% in different ethnic groups. 3.0% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 29.7 % of all households lived in 30.9 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 64.2 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.43 persons and the average family size is 3.06 people.

27.7 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.1% were 20-39 years old, 27.8 % were 40-59 years old and 21.4 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 39 years. 47.3 % of the population were male and 52.7 % female.

The average annual income was $ 27,228, while 8.1% of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 95.47 % of the population spoke Spanish and 4.53%.

By Ponce de Leon Interstate 10, U.S. Highway 90 run (SR 10 ) and the Florida State Road 81 through the town leads a freight railway line. The nearest airport is the Pensacola International Airport (130 km west).
