Poncelet
The Poncelet ( unit symbol: p ), named after the French physicist Jean -Victor Poncelet was a unit of power in France. It was by now also obsolete unit horsepower ( fr.: cheval- vapeur ) replaced.
1 p = 4/ 3 hp = 980.665 watts
1 Poncelet defines the power that must be provided to m = counter- gravity field of the Earth ( 9.80665 m / s ² for standard acceleration ) to move a body of mass 100 kg at a speed of 1 m / s.
Power = work / time =
Because the definition of 1 hp only by the accelerated mass is different: 75 kg instead of 100 kg - equivalent to 1 hp exactly 3/4 Poncelet.
