Pong Lang

The Pong Lang ( in Thai โปงลาง ) is a belonging to the group of Idiophone musical instrument from Northeast Thailand, Isan.

The Pong Lang is similar to a xylophone constructed and contains 12 wooden boards, which are tied together at each end with a strong rope. The boards with the lowest note is attached to a small post.

The Pong Lang is played by two placed on both sides of the instrument players simultaneously, with one takes the melody, while the other plays the accompaniment. The sound is generated with the aid of sticks.

The instrument can also be played solo and in an ensemble. It is particularly popular in the province of Kalasin. The Pong Lang is heard to all kinds of entertainment, festivals and ceremonies.
