Ponitrie Protected Landscape Area

The protected landscape area Ponitrie (Slovak Chranena krajinná oblasť Ponitrie ) is a nature reserve in south-eastern Slovakia. It covers the mountains Tribeč ( German Tribetzgebirge ) and Vtáčnik ( German bird Mountains) and is mostly in the districts Nitriansky kraj ( Nitra Okresy, Topoľčany and Zlaté Moravce ) and Trenčín Region ( Okresy Partizánske and Prievidza ). The seat of government is located in Nitra.

Geography

The conservation area is made up of two different rock units that differ in geological structure, forest types and plant and animal life. The Tribetzgebirge is formed of granite, dolomite, limestone and slate mountains. A specific feature of the mountains are rocks that occur particularly in marginal areas. How the Little Carpathians or the Inowetz further west it extends out into the Slovak Danube lowland, thus houses the area, caused by other factors such as the climate or exposure, more heat- loving plants as the bird Mountains. The Nature Reserve Zoborská lesostep steppe and forest-steppe species are represented.

The bird Mountains in the northeast, however, is of volcanic origin and is formed of volcanic rocks from the Tertiary, mostly of andesite and rhyolite. It is part of the Slovak Central Mountains and is interesting because of bizarre rock formations. Some of these are, for example, in Buchlova, Kláštorská scale and on the mountain to find Vtáčnik.

Flora and Fauna

As typical trees for Tribetzgebirge oak, hornbeam and beech in higher parts apply. There are growing rare or endangered plant species, such as Thlaspi jankae ( genus Heller herbs), germander sage, Colorful pea, dwarf iris, pheasant's eye, Large anemone, Turk's cap, and more. In the bird Mountains shrub plant, mainly of beech, combined with spruce, customary. More rarely you can also European yew. In contrast to Tribetzgebirge here grow more mountain plants, such as: Gray Alpendost, Austrian Gämswurz, Forest - Wood-rush, plane Buttercup, moldavicum Aconitum ( monkshood genus ) and Crepis sibirica ( genus Pippau ).

From the animal kingdom more than 5,100 species of invertebrates and 220 species of vertebrates are known. Sometimes you can find lynxes and wildcats in the mountains. " Specialties " of Tribetzgebirges are mouflon and fallow, which until 1867 but not at home. Some birds of prey are the Eastern Imperial Eagle, Lesser Spotted Eagle and Honey Buzzard. For the invertebrates, for example, here the great capricorn beetle, rhinoceros beetle, wine Zwirner and the Great grasshopper live.
