Pont-de-Poitte

Pont -de- Poitte is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Pont -de- Poitte is located on 442 m above sea level. M., about 15 km southeast of the town of Lons -le- Saunier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the Valley of the Combe d' Ain, west of the river across from the Ain Patornay, at the northern end of the reservoir Vouglan.

History

The municipality of Pont -de- Poitte was already inhabited in Gallo- Roman times. In the 11th century the Church of Poitte is first mentioned. Since the 13th century there was a priory, which was dependent on Gigny. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. To a field change occurred in 1815, when the previously independent Blaisnay was incorporated into Poitte. At an old Road with bridge over the Ain located the bridge village of Pont -de- Poitte developed much more rapidly than the hamlet Poitte. Therefore, the community Poitte was officially renamed in 1887 in Pont -de- Poitte.

Population

With 672 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Pont -de- Poitte one of the small towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1911 723 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.
