Pontault-Combault

Pontault- Combault is a commune with 36 458 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Seine- et- Marne in the Île- de -France region. It belongs to Arrondissement Torcy and is the only municipality and thus also chef-lieu ( chief town ) in the canton Pontault- Combault. The inhabitants are called Ponto Combalusiens or Pontellois - Combalusiens.

Geography

Pontault- Combault is located 20 kilometers east-southeast of Paris on the River Morbras, a tributary of the Marne.

The site is bordered to the north by Émerainville, to the east by Roissy -en- Brie, on the southeast by Ozoir -le- Ferrière, to the south Lésigny, on the southwest by La Queue -en- Brie (department of Val- de -Marne ), in west of Le Plessis- Trévise (department of Val- de -Marne ), and to the northwest by Noisy- le -Grand ( Seine- Saint- Denis ).

In the south of the church is a part of the Forêt de Notre -Dame is spreading.

Traffic

The station Émerainville - Pontault- Combault is on the railway line between Paris and Mulhouse. Through the town leads a part of the third ring road around Paris, the francilienne (as A104 and Route nationale 104 designates ). This intersects here with the N 4, which leads to the German - French border near Strasbourg and Kehl.

History

Pontault is mentioned as Pontelz 1079. Probably occurs because the name from the Latin term for a small bridge here ( ponticellum ). 1839 Municipalities and Pontault Combault were merged. Only from the 20th century, the town developed into a banlieue in eastern Paris. From the 1970s, the population increased over 10,000, while it was still at the beginning of the 20th century under 1,000.
