Ponte dell'Accademia

The Accademia Bridge is a bridge in Venice, the Grand Canal spans the Campo S. Vidal connects to the Campo della Carita, and the Sestieri San Marco with Dorsoduro. It owes its name to the Accademia Gallery which located in Campo della Carita, the most important collection of paintings in Venice. There was already in the 15th century plans to build a bridge at this point, but only under the imperial Administration opened the constructed according to the plans of the English architect Neville iron bridge on 20 November 1854. They wanted to replace the relic of an unpopular occupying power by a stone bridge. However, the winner of a relevant competition had their project engineer Eugenio Miozzi, who also had the Ponte degli Scalzi built, to defer them. The wooden bridge of Miozzi was opened on 15 January 1933 and serves crossing the Canal Grande. The view from the Accademia to the church of Santa Maria della Salute is one of the most beautiful in the city.
