Ponte Tresa

Ponte Tresa ( German outdated: Treis Bruck ) is a municipality in the region Malcantone in a circle Magliasina in the district of Lugano in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.

The community area is only 41 acres (0.41 km ² ); Ponte Tresa is thus in terms of area, the fifth smallest municipality in Switzerland.

Geography

The town of Ponte Tresa is located on both sides of the Italian-Swiss border. It is located where the Tresa also flows out of the lake of Lugano. The river forms the border between Switzerland and Italy. The Italian Ponte Tresa Lavena Ponte Tresa belongs to the municipality.

The town may from Lugano on the narrow gauge railway Lugano - Ponte Tresa be achieved as well with the ship. Currently ( summer 2009) is planned after Lavena an extension beyond the border. From 1885 to 1950 ( electrified in 1918 ) combined a narrow-gauge railway Ponte Tresa with Luino on Lake Maggiore.
