Pontenet is a municipality in the administrative district in the canton of Bern Bernese Jura in Switzerland.
Geography
Pontenet is located on 741 m above sea level. M., 10 km west-southwest of the town Moutier (air line). The farming village extends on a knoll on the lower southern slopes of the Moron approximately 30 m above the valley floor of the Birs, in the broad valley basin of the Jura latitudinal Vallée de Tavannes.
The area of 2.7 km ² large municipality area comprises a narrow section in the central part of the Vallée de Tavannes. The southern part takes up the Birs Talniederung. A small tip comes to the lower slopes of the Montoz chain flanking the Vallée de Tavannes on its south side. To the north, the municipality's territory extends beyond the Pâturage du Droit ( pasture and forest ) and the steep wooded slope to the Jura mountains of Moron, where with 1,325 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Pontenet is achieved. Here there is an extensive Jura mountain meadows with the typical tall spruce trees that are either individually or in groups. From the municipality surface 1997 6 % came from settlements, 46 % of forest and shrubs, 47% to agriculture and slightly less than 1% was unproductive land.
To Pontenet include several individual farms and mountain farms on the Moron. Neighboring communities of Pontenet are Loveresse, Souboz and Malleray.
Population
With 224 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Pontenet one of the small communities of the Bernese Jura. Of the 89.5% inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 9.5 % and 0.5 % Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Pontenet amounted in 1850 to 121 residents in 1900 to 234 inhabitants. After peaking in 1920 with 295 residents since then a sharp decrease.
Economy
Pontenet is still a mainly coined by farming village, with livestock and dairy farming predominate. In the valley of the Birs, some smaller companies have established. Many workers are commuters and work in the industrial towns of the Vallée de Tavannes.
Traffic
The community is conveniently comparatively quite well developed. It is located 500 meters from the main road of Delemont to Tavannes. By 2015, the A16 motorway to be built in the Vallée de Tavannes, which will connect the Swiss motorway network with the French motorway network. On December 16, 1876, the railway line was inaugurated by Court to Tavannes, with a railway station in Pontenet.
History
The first mention of Pontenet dated to 1357 under the name Pontenat. The village was under until the end of the 18th century, the provost Moutier- Grandval. From 1797 to 1815 belonged Pontenet to France and was initially part of the département du Mont- Terrible, which was connected to the 1800 Haut -Rhin. By the decision of the Congress of Vienna, the place came in 1815 to the canton of Bern to the district of Moutier.
Attractions
In the center a few farm houses from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved, the oldest farmhouse dates from 1673rd The small church was built in the style of late classicism.
