Pontiac is the county seat ( county seat ) of Livingston County in the U.S. state of Illinois. In the 2000 census, a population was determined by 11,864 people.

Geography

Pontiac is on the river vermilion. According to the official statement of the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.6 km ², of which 0.19% water.

Data obtained from the census in 2000 11.864 citizens of Pontiac lived in 4,139 households; among them were 2,619 families. The population density was 874 per km ². In place of 4,379 residential units were recorded, of which 4,139 are inhabited. Among the population was 85.4 % White, 10.9% African American, 0.2% American Indian, 0.4 % Asian and 2.1% of other ethnic groups; 1.0 % reported belonging to several ethnic groups.

Among the 4,319 households 31.9% had children under the age of 18; 31.6 % were single-person households. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size 3.00.

The population was spread out with 22.9% under the age of 18, 10.6 % from 18 to 24, 32.7 % 25-44 years, 20.3% from 45 to 64 years and 13.5 % of 65 years or older. The median age was 35 years.

The median household income was $ 37,593, the median family income $ 43,231. The per capita income in Pontiac was $ 16,863. Under the poverty line lived 8.1% of families and 11.7 % of the population.
