Pontida

Pontida is a municipality ( comune ) in the northern Italian province of Brescia, in Lombardy. Pontida lies about 40 kilometers northeast of Milan and about 16 km northwest of Bergamo. Since 2006 Pontida are granted by Presidential Decree city rights.

The place is located a few kilometers east of the river Adda on the railway line from Lecco to Bergamo. Through the site, the Strada Statale 342 results

History

The place of the Oath of Pontida formed in 1167 here the Lombard League, which in 1176 fought at the Battle of Legnano against Frederick Barbarossa. In the context of the Risorgimento of the 19th century, this oath was used again for the founding of the state. Albert of Prezzate founded on November 8, 1076 at today's Pontida the same Cluniac priory where he himself became a monk in 1080 and prior. 1910, the monastery was rebuilt as a Benedictine Abbey Pontida.
