Pontifical Academy of Archaeology

The Pontificia Accademia Romana di Archeological Museum ( German Roman Pontifical Academy of Archaeology ) is a Pontifical Academy, established in Rome.

History

Precursor of the Academy was founded by Pope Benedict XIV in 1740 Accademia delle Antichità the novels drew upon the Accademia Romana of Julius Pomponius Laetus in the 15th century.

The Papal Academy of Archaeology was founded in 1810 by Pope Pius VII as Accademia Romana di Archeological Museum. After an interim release was made in 1816 a re-foundation. By Pope Pius VIII in 1829 was the papal recognition for Pontificia Accademia Romana di Archeological Museum. The purpose of the Academy is to promote research in classical antiquity through to the prehistory and the Renaissance.

Academy

The Academy consists of up to 140 members, including 20 honorary members, 40 full members and 80 associate members.

The President is appointed by the Pope. Duty of the President, among other things, the communication with the Pontifical Council for Culture and the Pontifical Academies, as well as ensure the annual meeting of the Pontifical Academies to organize. He is automatically a member of the Council on the coordination of the Pontifical Academies.
