The Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy (Latin: Pontificia Academia Ecclesiastica; Italian: Pontificia Accademia Ecclesiastica PEA ) is a Pontifical College.

History

Today's Academy was founded in 1701 as the Accademia dei Nobili Ecclesiastici by Abbot Peter Garagni and by Pope Clement XI. confirmed with the aim of diplomatic training of clergy from Catholic noble families. 1850 Pope Pius IX divided. the Academy in the Vatican Secretariat of State.

The Academy is based in Palazzo Severoli, Piazza della Minerva in Rome since 1706.

Organization

The overall management of the Diplomatic Academy will be for each Cardinal Secretary of State; President is a diplomatically experienced Archbishop Curia.

In each year about 12 clergymen of the universal Church be included ( maximum age 35 years old). The students complete a doctoral degree in canon law at the Pontifical Universities of Rome, a; parallel through this training at the Diplomatic Academy.
