Pontifical Xavierian University

The Pontifical University Xaveriana (Spanish: Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, in short: PUJ) is a Colombian University of pontifical right. The motto of the university is Sapientia aedificavit sibi domum.

Run by the Society of Jesus private university was founded in 1604 in Santafe de Bogota. 1623 was the archbishop's recognition. 1767 had to be closed, the Jesuit university. In 1930 she was under Pope Pius XI. reopened.

Headquarters of the university is Bogotá, an offshoot located in Cali. At 18 schools and faculties 61 departments and 14 institutes with 181 study programs are set up, involving more than 18,000 students in bachelor's degree programs, 3,000 students are enrolled in master's degree programs. In postgraduate training programs with 750 offers approximately 23,000 students are enrolled (2007).

Grand Chancellor is Peter Hans Kolvenbach SJ, Vice - Grand Chancellor Gabriel Ignacio Rodríguez- Tamayo and SJ University President Gerardo Remo Lina Vargas SJ.
