Pontus Carlsson

Pontus Carlsson ( born December 24, 1982 in Cali, Colombia) is a Swedish chess player.

Life

As Carlsson was one year old, his entire family was killed. He was adopted by a Swedish couple. With four years of his stepfather taught him to play chess.

Achievements

With the Swedish national team, he participated in the European Team Championships 2005 in Gothenburg, 2007 in Heraklion, 2011 in Porto Carras and 2013 in Warsaw, where in 2007 he an individual bronze medal for his score of 6 points from 9 games won ( Elo performance 2686 ). He was also a member of the Swedish national team at the Chess Olympiads in Turin in 2006, in Dresden in 2008 and 2012 in Istanbul.

Club chess he played in Sweden Linköping ASA and since the 1999/2000 season for the Sollentuna SK, with whom he repeatedly won the Swedish Team Championship (1999/2000, 2001/ 02, 2002/ 03, 2005/ 06, 2006/ 07, 2009 / 10 and 2011/ 12) and at the European Club Cup 2002, 2005 and 2007 participated. Outside the Swedish first league he played in clubs in Spanish and Catalan leagues as well as in Iceland.

Since August 2005, he bears the title of International Master. For this he needed between June 2001 and July 2005, five standards. Since June 2007 he is the Grand Master. His Elo rating is 2511 (as of August 2012), that he is in ninth place of the Swedish Elo ranking. The previous highest Elo rating of 2531 Carlsson was in May 2012.
