Poop deck

The poop, and the poop deck or Puppdeck, in some literature also poop, is a ship's deck on a ship.

Definition

The poop deck is the uppermost deck of the ship aft (back deck ) on a ship, particularly a sailing ship. The word poop can thereby derive puppis from the Latin term, which freely translated means the ship's stern. The poop is, strictly speaking, the roof of the cabin top on the aft deck, which gets its own deck name in this case.

Very often, even in wind wailing from steel and the deck was planked with teak. It was often used by the commanding officers, to monitor the work of the crew on board, which on almost all decks of the ship was thus quite possible due to the exalted position on board and good field of view.
