Popa Chubby

Popa Chubby ( born March 31, 1960 in New York City, Theodore Joseph Horowitz bourgeois ) is an American blues singer and guitarist who after years of performances at Manny's Carwash, a popular New York City blues club, together with his band mid- 1990s became popular worldwide.

Biography

Popa Chubby grew up in an environment of music environment. At the marriage of his parents, jazz saxophonist Illinois Jacquet to have occurred. At the age of six years, Popa Chubby and his father visited a concert of Chuck Berry. Then he began to play the guitar. In later years had the music of rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton significant impact on Popa Chubby's artistic development. Previously, he had played with the CBS Records punk band chaos. Later followed a period with Richard Hell and The Voidoids.

In the late 1980s, Popa Chubby came often in the subway of New York City. His performances in the blues club Manny's Carwash allowed him to play with different through -traveling blues artists. Because white journalists criticized him as a white blues musicians, he claims that the only major obstacle that has ever met him, had been a " reverse racism." Popa Chubby also took tours with blues musicians like Earl King, Albert King and James Cotton.

His 1995 debut album, released on OKeh Records, Booty & The Beast, alienated many blues aficionados. Some arranged him because of his appearance and because of his pseudonym as a rock musician. In fact, Popa Chubby's music away from the mainstream tradition of the blues. His music contains hard rock elements that are due to his penchant for Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath recordings from the mid -1970s.
