Pope Alexander VIII

Alexander VIII (* April 22, 1610 in Venice, † February 1, 1691 in Rome), his real name is Pietro Vito Ottoboni, was Pope from 1689 to 1691 the Catholic Church. The Pope name recalls Alexander VII and his family.

Life

Pietro Ottoboni was an accomplished church lawyer. Pope Innocent X appointed him a cardinal on February 19, 1652, from 1677 to 1680 with the title of Santa Maria in Trastevere, Santa Prassede 1680-1681 and later became Bishop of Brescia and Datarius in Rome. On October 6, 1689 Ottoboni was elected with the support of King Louis XIV, the new pope. Ludwig was back in the 1690 episode Avignon and venaissin to the Papal States.

Alexander VIII acquired during his pontificate which is rich in manuscripts library of Queen Christina of Sweden for the Vatican Library.
