Pope Evaristus

Evaristus (* in the 1st century; † 105 probably in Rome) was the fifth Bishop of Rome (about 98-105 ). Also known as Aristus.

From Evaristus little is known. According to the Liber Pontificalis he comes from a family of Hellenic origin, but had a Jewish father of Bethlehem. He was elected during the reign of the Roman Emperor Domitian, at the time of the second great persecution of Christians. Liber Pontificalis also indicates that he in seven diaconias, diaconiae, aufteilte Rome. He is traditionally regarded as martyr, but for which there is no historical evidence.

Evaristus ' feast day is October 26.
