Pope Felix I

Felix I. (* in Rome, † December 30 ibid 274 ) was elected on 5 January 269 to the Bishop of Rome, after his predecessor Dionysius had died on December 26, 268. His name means: the lucky one.

There are few authentic sources regarding his episcopate. One writes to him that he gave the annual fairs at the graves of the martyrs the blessing of the Church, an already long cherished tradition. The law for the consecration of churches is attributed to him. He is said to have been deeply committed to the objectives pursued by Emperor Aurelian Christians, which is why he also - is run as a martyr - possibly unjustified.

A fragment of a letter to Maximus, Bishop of Alexandria, which is advocating the doctrine of the Trinity, perhaps derived from Felix, three other letters are probably attributed to him wrongly.

Felix died on December 30, 274 and was buried in St. Callistus catacombs. His feast day is December 30.
