Pope John IV

John IV (* 6th or 7th century, † October 12 642 in Rome) was Pope from 640 to his death.

He came from Salona in Dalmatia and was elected after the brief pontificate of Severinus on 24 December 640. He bought Christians free from Avar -Slavic imprisonment and sentenced the Monothelitism. Compared to Constans II, he defended the 638 late Pope Honorius I. On October 12, 642, he died in Rome.
