Pope John V

John V. (* in Syria; † August 2 686 in Rome) was Pope 23 July 685 to his death.

He came from Syria, possibly Antioch. Since 680 he was papal legate. He took office as Pope on 23 July 685. From Emperor Justinian II, he received several favors for the Western Church. In addition, he has benefited from the bishops of Sardinia subject. Due to his knowledge of Greek, he was chosen to take part Ecumenical Council of Constantinople in the Sixth Opel. On August 2, 686 he died in Rome. He is buried in the Basilica of St. Peter's Basilica.
