Pope John XI

John XI. († 935 in Rome) was Pope from 931 to 935

He was raised by his mother Marozia, which was at that time a de facto Machthaberin over Rome, to the Pope and was dependent on her. After the emperor faithful historian Liutprand of Cremona, he was the son of Pope Sergius III.

John XI. was 932 with his mother Marozia of their son - captured Alberic II and died after the captivity, probably standing under house arrest, 935 Lateran - and thus his alleged half-brother. Pope John XI. has probably found his tomb in S. Giovanni in Laterano (after Pavinio ). After Louis Duchesne, his grave was at the gates of the Lateran church. A more precise location, however, is not known. His tomb is now lost.
