Pope Maximus of Alexandria

Maximus († 282) was Bishop of Alexandria as the successor of St. Dionysius.

Maximus was first presbyter in Alexandria under Dionysius, which he then followed in the year 265 in the Episcopate. The most significant issue of the Eastern Townships in the late 260s years was dealing with Paul of Samosata, bishop of Antioch; this had fallen because of his views on Christology in the criticism was being accused him of denying the divine nature of Christ. In addition to the bishops of Jerusalem and Edessa and Maximus of Alexandria was heavily involved in the case against Paul, which eventually led to his dismissal.

Successor of Maximus in the episcopate was 282 Theonas. Maximus is venerated as a saint, his feast day is December 27.
