Pope Theonas of Alexandria

Theonas († 300) was bishop of Alexandria at the time of the Emperor Diocletian.

Theonas took over the office of bishop in the year 282 by Maximus. He is a letter to the chamberlain of the emperor Diocletian, Lucian, attributed that documents allegedly spreading Christianity in the imperial court. This letter was in fact recognized by historians ( Batiffol, Harnack ) as a forgery. Theonas died in 300 and was succeeded by Petros I.

Theonas is venerated as a saint, his feast day is August 27.
