Popliteal artery

The popliteal artery ( " popliteal artery ," poples from lat, knee ' ) is an artery of the lower limb. It is in man a direct continuation of the femoral artery ( femoral artery ) after their passage through the adductor canal in the popliteal region. In animal anatomy, the disposal of caudal artery femoris distalis is defined as the boundary between the thigh and popliteal artery.

The popliteal artery has eight branches, namely the artery medial superior genus, the genus lateralis superior artery, the artery media genus, the arteries surales, the artery medial inferior genus, the genus artery inferior lateralis and the anterior tibial artery and posterior tibial artery.

In the upper region of the lower leg, the artery splits into two major branches -, the front and posterior tibial artery ( tibialis anterior and posterior).

Posterior to the popliteal artery is the popliteal vein.
