Popliteal lymph nodes

The popliteal lymph nodes ( lymph nodes [ lymph ]. Poplitei or lymph [ Lnn. ] Poplitei ) are a collection of lymph nodes in the popliteal fossa in mammals. Comparative- anatomical they are expected to Kniekehllymphzentrum ( Lymphocentrum popliteal ). In humans and in pigs there are two groups of lymph nodes, the superficial and the deep popliteal lymph nodes. In other mammals usually only one of these groups is formed. The catchment area ( tributäres area ) includes the leg below the knee.

The superficial popliteal lymph nodes ( Nll. poplitei superficiales ) lie at the mouth of the small saphenous vein. Your tributäres area are the calf and the lateral foot. Predators typically have a single superficial lymph nodes behind the knee ( popliteal Ln. superficialis ), which is palpable as in humans.

The deep popliteal lymph nodes ( Nll. poplitei profundi ), are embedded under the Kniefaszie at the popliteal vein in fat. Its catchment area is the back of the lower leg. In ruminants and horses exclusively deep popliteal lymph nodes come are lying in the depth of the knee on the gastrocnemius muscle. The deep popliteal lymph nodes are in the living individual is usually not palpable.
