Popovice (Brno-Country District)

Popovice ( German Popowitz, formerly Poppowitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located ten kilometers south of the center of Brno and belongs to Okres Brno- venkov.

Geography

Popovice located in the Thaya Schwarza valley floor. The village lies west of the mouth of the Bobrava in the Svratka. To the south extends the Rajhradská bažantnice ( Popowitzer Forest). To the west runs the railway line Břeclav - Brno, where the station Popovice u Rajhradu is. Likewise west leads the expressway R 52 / E 461 over, from junction 9 take the road to Popovice.

Neighboring towns are Modřice in the north, Chrlice in the northeast, Rebešovice in the east, in the southeast Rajhradice, Loučka, Čeladice and Rajhrad in the south, Syrovice in the southwest, and Ořechov Hajany in the west and Želešice in the northwest.

History

The first written mention of the village Popowici took place in 1045 in a deed establishing a monastery by the pin Břevnov. In the founding document of the monastery Rajhrad of 1048 Popovice next Rajhrad, Rajhradice, Loučka, Opatovice, Ořechov and Domašov was listed as monastic possession.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed Popovice 1850 a municipality in the district team Hustopeče. 1948, the community was associated with the Okres Židlochovice. After its cancellation Popovice came to Okres Brno- venkov.
